Oreck Vacuum Service & Repair: brand identity, web design, and custom web development by History of Salad, a creative technology studio in Asheville, NC
Services Provided
Oreck Vacuum Service and Repair is a vacuum service shop run by Bob Brasfield in Brandon, Mississippi. The challenge: could we design and build an SEO-optimized website that feels as charming as the man who’s about to fix your vacuum?
We built out a flexible design system with colors inspired by the world of Oreck vacuums.
The typefaces were selected for their off-beat, vernacular qualities, which recall the hand-painted letterforms of old-school service shops and contractors.

Karrik—an open-source grotesque sans designed by Jean-Baptiste Morizot and Luca Le Bihan—is used exclusively for headlines and oversized marquees. The body copy is set in New Burns, an organic serif designed by Eliott Grunewald.

We rounded out the brand with a pair of interactive characters inspired by the classic forms of upright and handheld vacuums.
We set up a customized backend editing experience for this client using Prismic CMS. To maintain an engaging visual flow, content editors can switch the background and foreground colors of each slice with a single click.
The site menu features a click-to-copy-email function and buttery smooth animations to different informational sections of the page.
